Investing

Investing is the activity of forecasting the yield over the life of an asset. Using Benjamin Graham’s definition, "an investment operation is one which, upon thorough analysis, promises safety of principal and an adequate return. Operations not meeting these requirements are speculative."

The Popping of the Oil Bubble?

Analysts from commodities investment firms say that the recent run in oil prices will be short-lived, with some evidence of a dip during today's trading.

Would you suggest opting for an alternative?

Natural gas--though there's a huge supply that's currently keeping prices low?

Soy--prices have gone up enormously over the past month, but may be overpriced, as well?

Precious metals--even though they may not do so well once the market recovers?

I'm a firm believer in Peak Oil, but I have a sense that Americans won't feel the effects of it until another 10-20 years from now.

Zvi Bodie on the Safety of Stocks in the Long Run

The notion that stocks are risky in the short-run but safe in the long run is a dangerous financial fallacy according to Boston University professor Zvi Bodie.

Professor Bodie has been communicating this view consistently for many years, and the financial crisis has provided strong support for his argument.

The gist of Bodie's view involves that impact that equity market...

Commodities Investment

Given the current market rally, especially in commodities, would you consider it to be a good investment opportunity for long-term investors? I ask after reading about growing demands for natural resources from China and other industrializing nations.

Also, would you recommend that an investor choose ETFs in commodities or directly invest in commodities themselves? And would it be a wise investment for future retire planning?

Thanks,

William Do
