China's Annuity Market Developing Slowly

Despite the demographic challenges associated with an ageing society, individual annuities are non-existent in China.

Some individuals in China do have access to what is referred to as an enterprise annuity.  Enterprise annuities are a form of supplemental pension plan that is supported by the Chinese government.  Enterprise annuities were enabled through legislation that went into effect in May of 2004.

Low Fee Annuities

I get questions periodically about low or no fee annuities.

There are, in fact, annuity products (including variable annuities) that are being developed for fee only financial advisors (advisors who do not accept commissions on product sales).

Allianz Reports Strong Revenue Growth Coupled with Earnings Challenges Due to Low Interest Rates

Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America reported strong revenue growth for the third quarter of 2010.

Fixed indexed annuity sales increased 36 percent and totaled $1.9 billion.

Variable annuity sales quadrupled to $800 million.

Allianz attributes the revenue growth to more risk averse consumers in the wake of the financial crisis.
