Why would anyone even bother consdering a variable annuity from any company outside of the few that dominate the industry?

Prudential is one of the leading companies and they appear committed to the variable annuity market for the long-haul.

Other companies (Hartford is a great example) are leaving the variable annuity industry as fast as they can.

They don't have the resources, distribution and staying-power to compete with the larger players such as Pru, Met Nationwide and Lincoln.

What do financial advisors say to their clients who are in Hartford products?  Sorry, but that great VA you purchased before the financial crisis is no longer available?  Ouch.

The VA industry is dominated by a handful of companies.  This is not going to change anytime soon.

It only makes sense to work with the companies that are committed to the market.
